 Outside Software

Outside or foreign applications / software should not be innocently introduced to the clinic's computer system.  We strongly suggest that you implement a policy that prohibits software (all disks and CDs) from being brought into the clinic by your staff.

Not only might the outside or foreign software contain a computer virus, but you may end up with a licensing problem or at least a configuration management problem.

Also consider a policy that the staff not remove any disks or business related data (such as price lists) from the clinic.  In general, there should be very few if any reason for business or medical data to leave the clinic on disk or in printed form.

We have chosen to connect only one computer to a modem and the Internet.  That computer is not connected to the networked computers and we do not share files or disks with this computer. We have isolated our system from a major source of potential problems.
